What an electric comeback victory for the Red Bulls in Harrison tonight I'm still riled up on my way home from the game. Ill have a more thorough post match analysis later on in the weekend but I figured I'd post a fun brain dump I wrote while attending the game. Let me know on Twitter if you'd like to see more off the cuff content!
1st half
Out of possession: pressing in a 4-2-3-1 with Casseres tucking in centrally and Harper staying high and wide
In Possession: 4-4-2/3-4-3 with Nealis providing width/overload out right
RBNY pressing very efficiently so far particularly in the opposition half
Columbus struggling to match intensity, Zelarayan and Matan are both very isolated
Playing many balls over the top, cant play through RBNY midfield
Biggest takeaway through 30: Tolkin positioning, Columbus inability to play through the press
The wheels fall off the bus, uncharacteristic error from Reyes and Colonel
Columbus 1-0: 0.05 xg, 11 less attacks, 18 less dangerous attacks. Say less
2nd half
Tactical switch Edelman for Manoel
Lopsided 4-3-3 or 4-2-2-2: Manoel and Burke two strikers, Harper tucking in as RIF Nealis pushing up very high
Much more effective press, early second half goal
Luquinhas gets his early (!!)
Harper staying higher up centrally and Manoel stepping back as Deep lying forward as half progresses, Red Bulls flying forward
Vanzeir comes on around the 63rd, needs to see more of the ball
VANZEEEIIIIRRR (sometimes one touch is all you need hehe)
!!! Red Bulls win (scoring twice) !!!
