FC Dallas began their season yesterday with a disappointing 0-0 draw against the Colorado Rapids. Wingers Obrian and Vargas raced up and down the field and would find Franco Jara but no could convert a chance into a goal.

Goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer was named the Man of the Match with 6 saves overall in the game, including a couple against former teammate Michael Barrios.

Despite playing with the Rapids, long time Dallas supporters welcomed Barrios back to Frisco and many even gave him an ovation as he was subbed off in the second half.

The game featured the return of another beloved member of FC Dallas. Tex Hooper! After months away from supporters, the famed bull appeared alongside El Capitan. Excited to see the stadium filled with supporters once again, even if it was with limited capacity, Hooper spent some of half time waving to fans.

Yesterday also saw the return of current number 19 in the club, Paxton Pomykal. Months after he had to end his 2020 season early due to a lingering injury, and after facing a setback during preseason, Pomykal stepped back onto the pitch in Toyota Stadium. Although he wasn't able to lift Dallas to a home win, many supporters where just glad to see the Wonderkid playing once more. Should he stay healthy this year, he could provide a creative spark for the team by just coming off the bench.

Obrian despite finding Jara early in the game, was ineffective. Sometimes compared to Fabian Castillo by Buzz Carrick's 3rd Degree, he was frustrating to watch last night. He's fast and can beat a man to the ball but his decision making in the final third leaves a lot to be desired. Instead playing a teammate who was in the box, he tried to score from the side of the goal which Colorado goalkeeper William Yarbrough was able to collect easily.

After an impressive preseason, Vargas was largely quiet in the game. Bryan Acosta took most of the corner kicks and Andre Ricaurte took over on free kicks, an unexpected tactic after Vargas was able to score from a free kick in preseason and connect with Ryan Hollingshead for a goal from the corner in preseason.

Dallas will need to get its offense running if they wish to make the playoffs this year.
