FC Dallas has spent the last two weeks regrouping as Major League Soccer has stopped for the international break. Before the pause, Dallas had an abysmal record. In seven games, they only have a single win, three draws, and three loses, resulting in them being placed at the bottom of the Western Conference table with six points overall. In addition to poor performances, the club has had to deal with a thinning roster as multiple players have gone down injured, Matt Hedges, Jimmy Maurer, and Phelipe are just a few of them.

Now the team looks to be gaining some strength as three players have returned. Jesus Ferreira, who suffered a shoulder injury during preseason has been reported to be training with the team again. Brandon Servania has returned from his four month loan at Austrian's SKN St. Polten. Finally, homegrown Justin Che has returned from his training stint at Bayern Munich.

Servania and Che are not starters but will offer Luchi options off the bench. Ferreira will look to earn the starting striker spot. Here is a quick look at how all three of these players can help Luchi and what their roles might be:

Brandon Servania-

Servania is most known for his performance in the 2019 season. After Paxton Pomykal went down with an injury, Servania stepped up and earned a starting spot in the midfield, playing in his natural box-to-box midfielder role. It was his first season playing in MLS and his second since he signed with Dallas in 2018. In 1118 minutes, he scored two goals and registered three assists.

2020 saw limited minutes for him, however, as he only played for a total of 398 minutes and did not have a impact in any of his appearances. Before the start of the 2021 season, Servania was loaned out to SKN St. Polten.

Servania will mostly likely be seen as a supersub or rotational player whenever fellow midfielders Andres Ricaurte and Bryan Acosta are unavailable. Ricaurte and Acosta have been the bright spots in Dallas' season so far, making it a difficult spot to win.

The depth for those spots seem thinner than in the previous two seasons. Tessman can fill in if needed but after him, Luchi doesn't have many options. Nicky Hernandez is still a rookie. Thomas Roberts has dropped from the face of the earth. Pomykal was Dallas' best midfielder in 2019 but it's been mentioned by other FC Dallas news sources that he'll be switching to the left wing.

Justin Che-

Che is one of Dallas' recent homegrown signings. He hasn't spent a lot of time with the club so far, after signing in October of last year. He joined five fellow homegrowns in a training stint with Bayern Munich and impressed enough to be brought in on loan for their second team. There was a lot of speculation that Che would sign with Bayern as soon as his loan ended.

Centerback, along with striker, seems to have the less amount of depth on the roster. Bressan and Jose Martinez have been Luchi's perfered starting pair with Hedges swapping out with either of them. Beyond those three, the club has only one true centerback to fill in if needed, Nkosi Tafari. Tarafi has faced his own injury issues however, pushing him out of the 18. If another centerback went down, Luchi would be forced to play someone out of position, which hasn't seemed to work out well so far this year.

The arrival Che gives Luchi another option. Hedges was listed as out with a hip injury in the last injury report at the end of May and the club has kept silent on how long he'll be out. Che could see some minutes off the bench as Luchi will need to manage minutes in the defense.

Ferreira has the best chance of earning a starting spot. Depending on his fitness level, he could start as soon as Dallas returns to play or be a supersub for a couple of games. The striker role is up for grabs at the moment as Ricardo Pepi and Franco Jara have yet to claim the starting spot as their own.

Ferreira began the year with a breakout game in an international friendly against Trinidad and Tobago with the USMNT. The 7-0 victory saw him score two goals and register three assists. Fans were excited to see Ferreira lead the Dallas attack after that performance, unfortunately during preseason Ferreira suffered a shoulder injury that kept him away the club until recently.

The club has had issues scoring goals and Ferreira's return has brought some hope that the club could turn it's poor streak around and become a playoff team once again.

FC Dallas' next game will come against Minnesota United on Saturday, June 19th at Toyota Stadium in Frisco Texas.
