FC Dallas earned their first win on the road against Sporting Kansas City at Children's Mercy Park tonight. The final score was 2-1. Paxton Pomykal opened the scoring early in the match with a long ranged shot from outside the box. Jesus Ferreira doubled the lead in the beginning of the second half after quick pass from Szabolcs Schon from just outside the box. SKC's Johnny Russell attempted a late comeback in the game with Kansas' lone goal.

Dallas' Goals-

Unlike in previous seasons, the scoring this year for Dallas has only been done by a handful of players. Ricardo Pepi is the current leader with eight goals, Jader Obrian is second with three, and Franco Jara is third with two. Andres Ricaurte, Ryan Hollingshead, Dante Sealy, and Bressan all have one goal, giving Dallas just seven goal scorers so far. The lack of goal scorers has made Dallas an easy team to stop. Tonight, however, saw two more players open their 2021 accounts.

Pomykal has shown flashes of his former self. Tonight marked his fourth start in the row, the most he's had since 2019 when he started in twenty of twenty-five games. 2020 saw him play just five games with one start. He's had two assists but no goals... until tonight.

Pomykal opened the scoring in the third minute. Hollingshead won the ball deep in SKC's half. After winning the ball, Hollingshead dribbled it closer to the box and picked out an open Pomykal. Fans of Dallas have complained about Dallas players being too conservative in the attack. Few on the roster seem willing to take the risks needed to score. Pomykal is not one of the those players. His willingness to attempt a long shot sets him apart from most of the attack. The long shot took SKC's goalkeeper Tim Melia by surprise and he was unable to save it.

Ferreira doubled the lead five minutes after the second half began. Schon earned his second assist of the year with a quick lay off to Ferreira. Much like Pomykal's goal, Ferreira took the shot from outside the box and blasted it past Melia. The goal was his first of the 2021 season.

SKC's Goal-

Dallas were unlucky to not get the cleansheet. In the waning minutes of the match SKC were able to get the ball into Dallas' box. Daniel Salloi was left unmarked near the box, giving all the time he needed to pick out Johnny Russell who quickly headed the ball past Dallas' goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer.

Next Game-

FC Dallas will travel to Seattle to play the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday, August the 4th. The game is set to start at 9:00PM. They will then return home to face fellow Texas club Austin FC on Saturday August the 7th at 7:30PM.
